UVLED accelerates the replacement of mercury lamps, and the offset printing industry welcomes green upgrades

With the tightening of environmental policies and the increasing demand for cost reduction and efficiency improvement in printing enterprises, UVLED curing technology is accelerating the replacement of traditional mercury lamps and becoming a hot spot for upgrading and transformation in the offset printing field. According to feedback from industry equipment suppliers, since 2025, more than 30 offset printing factories in Europe, Southeast Asia have completed or are promoting the installation of UVLED curing systems, mainly used in packaging, labeling, and commercial printing production lines.

Compared with traditional mercury lamps, UVLED curing lamps do not require preheating, can start and stop instantly, and significantly reduce the surface temperature during operation, significantly reducing the risk of deformation of materials such as thin paper and thermal paper during the printing process. At the same time, the mercury free and ozone free design also helps companies avoid environmental compliance pressures, and the air quality in the workshop has been significantly improved.

Taking a medium-sized offset printing enterprise in USA as an example, after installing a UVLED system on its original six color offset printing machine, the monthly electricity cost decreased from 18000 yuan to 3500 yuan, a decrease of over 80%. At the same time, the curing unit requires almost no daily maintenance, and the cleaning time for changing orders has been reduced from 40 minutes per day to less than 5 minutes, resulting in a nearly 30% increase in overall production line efficiency.

The equipment supplier stated that the current UVLED curing lamp can be flexibly customized according to the offset printing machine model, printing format, and ink type, and the supporting air/water cooling scheme is mature and stable. As the cost of LED chips continues to decline, the investment payback period for "oil to UV" in the offset printing industry has generally been shortened to 6-12 months, and the industry is entering a window period for equipment upgrades.
